Who We Are
South Alive is an urban rejuvenation project, led by the community, with the goal of identifying the best possible future for South Invercargill and ways to make it happen.
It was established in 2012 with a small steering group, which then held a public meeting in April 2012 to generate ideas and decide priorities. Action teams of volunteers formed around each of the priority areas, and have been working since then to develop and implement projects.

Feel good Friday!
Over the last fortnight, we've had the pleasure of hosting 120 ākonga (students) from Southland Girls' High School as part of their Envirowatch programme. 🌱
Together, we shared kōrero (conversation) about the work we do for the community, gave them a tour of The Pantry Invercargill and all the fantastic initiatives happening there, took them out to our community gardens where they got to try some of the veges that are growing.
To wrap it up, they enjoyed a hot chocolate and picked up rubbish, on their hīkoi (walk) back to school! ☕
It's such an incredible opportunity for us to pass on knowledge and a sense of belonging, to the next generation.
Ngā mihi (thank you) to all the Kaiako (teachers) for bringing the girls down.

It's Throwback Thursday!
On this day 10 years ago, we celebrated the unveiling of the 'Tale of Southland' sculpture at Russell Square with a community procession from South Alive to the iconic Whale Tail. (you can watch it here: fb.watch/BuckYDAgCl/ )
The sculpture was only possible because of a generous donation from local Cliff Broad, and this led to a nationwide sculpture competition that was won by artist David Trubridge. Local manufacturers made Trubridge's design come to life, and now we have this incredible sculpture standing tall in the heart of South Invercargill. ... See MoreSee Less

Do you have any spare 100% wool to donate?
These amazing ladies below (plus a few not pictured) are called South Alive Team Knitwitz. Every Thursday morning they donate their time and energy to knitting baby items for the neonatal and children's ward at Kew Hospital but they are running out of wool. If you have some you could donate then please drop this off to The Pantry Invercargill or South Alive so they can keep delivering warm knitted items to our local bubs.
(p.s. because it is for babies, they are only able to knit with 100% wool rather than acrylic)
Many thanks ❤️Team at South Alive. ... See MoreSee Less
