South Alive Project

Rangatahi Initiatives

Our rangatahi projects aim to connect rangatahi of South Invercargill with their community and enjoy projects, events and initiatives that give them a chance to feel involved, give them new opportunities and allow them to feel seen and heard.

What Have We Done?

  • Whānau events like ‘Picnic in the Pod’ in 2023 and ‘SummerFest’ in 2024, give rangatahi some time to enjoy live music, gather information from local services and have some time with their whānau in our space.

  • We host CV and Interview training workshops throughout the year to help rangatahi gain some skills in representing themselves for employment journeys.

  • We have the ability to now refer rangatahi into the Drive My Life programme along with a number of other fantastic organisations in the CBD if they need the extra support.

  • A Podcasting group at Aurora College has been created, with the group finding their confidence and connecting with peers outside of classroom activities. You can listen to their podcast here

  • A Rangatahi Art Exhibition was held in the September/October 2023 School Holidays with support from He Waka Tuia.

  • Our ‘Rangatahi Events Crew’ help co-design the way these projects are delivered and we are always open to more of you joining!

Forward Plans

  • Future plans include well-being and life skill workshops, Students Against Dangerous Driving kōrero and activities, fitness activities in the warmer months, summer concerts, tech clubs and karaoke/talent events! And we are always open to more suggestions if you have any.
