⭐ SOUTH ALIVE & THE PANTRY NEWS ⭐

As part of our ongoing efforts to keep our community aware of activities at both South Alive and The Pantry, you will have noticed that this newsletter is now a joint effort. We hope you are enjoying the mix of news, events, and stories from both Pantry and South Alive. Some of you are even lucky to be subscribed to both databases and have been receiving two newsletters each month. To eliminate this, we will be combining The Pantry and South Alive’s individual email databases as of 1 September 2023. If you prefer not to receive this combined e-newsletter, simply email us at info@southalive.org.nz and we’ll ensure you’re removed from the list promptly.

Thank you for your continued support; we look forward to keeping you informed and engaged!

We want to hear your views!!!
Throughout August and September we are collecting responses to our Annual Survey and we want to hear as many voices as possible! So we would love it if you could fill out the survey (online http://[https://s.surveyplanet.com/9qaqlbcx] or in The Pod), tell your neighbours and friends to do it too. Then come along to our Annual Public Meeting on Sunday 10 September where we will explore all of the wonderful ideas people have some more, and see how we can bring these ideas ‘alive’

We are also looking forward to one of our signature annual events, the Spring Flower Show, on 30 September here at The Pod, so if you are a keen gardener, be sure to check out the different categories on offer and get your entry in! We also have some sections for the children, and will be having a fun afternoon in the school holidays where kids can come along and make something to enter the competition.

September is also a big month for some national weeks, so join along with us on Facebook and Instagram as we celebrate and acknowledge, Te Wiki o te Reo Māori (Māori language week), Aotearoa Clean Up Week, and Mental Health Awareness Week.

We were stoked to make it onto the list of The Best Cafes In Invercargill For A Real Taste Of Southland, here is what they wrote about us The Pantry ⬇

If you’re into nourishing soul food and paying it forward, then say namaste to The Pantry on your next trip to Invers. The clever people running this cafe/sustainable food store/community space have created a haven for meaningful gatherings, tasty wholesome food and supporting those who need a little help. Volunteer Opportunity at The Pantry
Are you passionate about making a positive impact in your community? The Pantry is looking for volunteers like you to join our team!

The Pantry, located at 133 Grace Street Invercargill, an important community hub for South Invercargill, incorporates a café, retail and wholefood, package-free grocery store. We have a diverse range of superheroes, of different ages, genders and abilities. They volunteer for many reasons, some use it as a steppingstone to paid employment, some a chance to connect with others, and others to give back to the community.

Volunteering at The Pantry provides huge benefits to our store and our community. We understand that your time is valuable, so we offer flexible volunteering hours to fit your schedule. Whether you can spare a few hours a week or a full day, we appreciate your contribution. When you volunteer at The Pantry we invest in your knowledge and skills, while building resilience and connections, making you a valuable asset within our community

Ready to make a difference? Join The Pantry team today! Contact us at admin@thepantry.co.nz or visit our website, www.thepantry.co.nz/volunteers to learn more and sign up.

⭐ RANGATAHI (YOUTH) UPDATE ⭐

‘Poipoia Te Kākano Kia Puawai – Nurture The Seed, And It Will Blossom’

Kia ora everyone! And it’s August, just like that. Our space has been humming as always, with some amazing events and initiatives!

I participated in Re – O week at SIT / Te Pūkenga in July and it was a fab few days meeting lots of students and seeing some other cool organisations there.

In the Rangatahi space I have been busy priortising those important network opportunities and collaborating alongside loads of great people & services to bring forth some great projects for our youth.

I’m meeting with Mark Unwin later this month, he is the manager of S.A.D.D (Students against dangerous driving) and together we will create some workshops within that field to deliver for our Rangatahi here in Murihiku.

The art exhibition of ‘what South Invercargill looks and feels like’ to our young people is taking place in the next lot of School Holidays with some more awesome events, so keep an eye out for that schedule!

Podcasting is going great ~ Episode 4 is on its way and the Youth participating in this are building loads of confidence!

Our Rangatahi Events Crew are co designing our Satellite Event, we have plans for mahi alongside the Electoral ComissionSummer concerts, First Aid courses and SO much more
