 JANUARY 2021 NEWSLETTER
HAPPY NEW YEAR  - FROM THE SOUTH ALIVE TRUST BOARD

Welcome to 2021 and an exciting new year for South Alive to continue its role within South Invercargill to develop “A vibrant and diverse community that takes the lead in its own future.”

We have started the year strongly with our three South Alive staff who will provide outstanding community development, project and administration services and I know that you will be welcomed by Courtney, Julz, and Claire in your interactions with the work we provide. More about these three is below.

Again we are so grateful and proud for the continued support for our Community Led Development Partnership funding with the Department of Internal Affairs and look forward to our regular consultation and meetings with our DIA Advisor Garry Lay.
The South Alive board values this opportunity to further promote and develop existing and new projects that have been identified in our recent public consultation .

I am always happy to hear any ideas or opinions that residents in South Invercargill may have to make sure that we continue to represent you well.

With best wishes for a positive and productive year ahead.

The South Alive Office Team

Courtney - Community Development & Operations Manager
Hi everyone,

I am so excited to be back at South Alive, seeing everyone’s friendly faces and working alongside Claire and Julz. My role will be focusing on connecting with all of you in our 9812 community, hearing what people want to see in South Invercargill and developing a plan with our community to make it happen. I will also be supporting and overseeing our action groups, volunteers and helping out with events.

The strength of South Alive is in its people and their commitments to making South Invercargill a place we can all be proud to live and work in, so I will be supporting our team of volunteers to keep them doing the good work they do.

I will be in the office Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays so pop in and say hi, I would love to see you.

Julz - Projects Manager
It is with excitement that I continue at South Alive in 2021 in a newly created position as Projects Manager.  This will enable the projects to be focused on within community led development at South Alive.

I will continue to manage the history trail project, food secure communities project, and work on other emerging projects to benefit the people of South Invercargill.
As well as this I will continue to support the mahi of our South Alive team - Claire, Courtney, South Alive Board and Volunteers that benefits the South Invercargill community.

Claire - Admin & Finance Manager
I have been lucky enough to have been part of the South Alive team now for 17 months and enjoy coming to work and interacting with the community each day.

Here at South Alive I undertake a range of tasks from taking and managing the bookings of the 2 great community rooms here within The Pod, Admin & Finance of the Trust, Marketing and Event Planning.

Feel free to make a time if you would like to come down to see The Pod community rooms for any up and coming events or group bookings. I am based in the office Monday - Friday 10am-2pm.

FRUIT & NUT TEAM - DUNBEATH CRES RESERVE

Thank you to the ICC for providing this much need mulch to surround our fruit and nut trees and thank you to the volunteers that assisted with spreading it, we really appreciate it !
PAY IT FORWARD PROGRAMME

South Alive and the Pantry continue to provide ‘Pay It Forward’ food boxes for families in need within South Invercargill. Grocery Vouchers are now included thanks to New World Elles Road and Foodstuffs Community Trust.  Recipients before Christmas received special hampers provided by South Alive, The Pantry, Aurora College and New World/Foodstuffs.

THE PANTRY - SOCIAL CONNECTION

Abandoned Scooter's outside on a Monday generally mean it's Mobility Scooter Club day. To join the club you just have to call into The Pantry and sign up, we'll put our flag on your scooter and in return you'll receive a free coffee and scone when the Mobility Scooter Club meets on Monday's at 11am.

The gang is always looking for more members and they really enjoy a laugh. Check out the prank they played on newest member whose name happens to be Donald.

ps: you can still come down and join the conversation without a scooter!
