A History Trail for South Invercargill...

South Invercargill is home to some of the most historic parts of Invercargill, so we are looking at developing a history trail to celebrate and acknowledge these sites. We could create a trail through South Invercargill taking in a number of sites such as the Southland Hospital with a long history of medical uses; the South Invercargill War Memorial on Elles Road; Kew Bowl, once regarded as potentially the fastest cycle track in the Southern Hemisphere; and the site of the Appleby Railway Station.

We have had some research done and these are just a few of the sites we have come up with, but we want to hear your thoughts.
  • What sites do you think should be included?
  • How do you want the trail to be shared? (e.g. through a brochure or an app on your phone)
  • Do you want be involved in making it happen?
You can send your ideas to courtney@southalive.org.nz by Friday 27 September, or pop along to a drop-in session to discuss your ideas. Two drop-in sessions will be held from 4 - 6pm on Tuesday 10 and Tuesday 24 September.

Training for South Alive Volunteers
We have an opportunity for volunteers with South Alive to participate in some volunteer host training. The training is being held on Saturday 7 September and will cover a range of topics including personality matching, being an ambassador for South Alive, and the skills required to be an excellent host. The training is targeted for those wanting to be a South Alive ambassador and volunteer in our community lounge space here at The Pod.

For more information or to register for the training, please contact info@southalive.org.nz, or pop in to The Pod to see us.
Housing Random Recognition Award

Did you know each month our Housing Team gives out an award for a property that shows care and pride in presentation of its street frontage.

Members of our Housing Team will be out and about searching for this year's winners. Well done to those who have already been acknowledged. You can see last year's winners on display in The Pod.
Our Annual Spring Flower Show is coming up on

The show is a celebration of the artistic and green fingers of South Invercargill families.

This year it will be held in our community spaces here at The Pod.  A programme and entry form will be available from the South Alive office, and we have a number of different competitions for both adults and children.
