Who We Are

South Alive is an urban rejuvenation project, led by the community, with the goal of identifying the best possible future for South Invercargill and ways to make it happen.

It was established in 2012 with a small steering group, which then held a public meeting in April 2012 to generate ideas and decide priorities. Action teams of volunteers formed around each of the priority areas, and have been working since then to develop and implement projects.

Our condolences are with the family of Sir Tim Shadbolt, he was a great support of the South Invercargill Community and the remembrance of Southlanders who served their country. With a special emphasis on Le Quesnoy and the remembrance of Southland men killed at Le Quesnoy, France.

We fondly remember Sir Tim and Asha joining us for the unveiling of Scully Place, as an Invercargill City Council Poppy Street Name, in March 2023. Scully Place was named after South Invercargill soldier Peter Scully DCM, who was killed at Le Quesnoy and unveiled by Sir Wayne (Buck) Shelford, National President RNZRSA. Thank you Sir Tim Shadbolt for you dedicated support of our community.
