A farewell and a welcome to our new staff!

After three very productive years with South Alive, our Manager Cress Evans is moving on to new adventures. Cress has led our group extremely capably through a period of rapid growth. She has carefully nurtured our relationships with our funders and has been a strong strategic thinker. We sincerely thank Cress for her huge contribution to South Alive's success and wish her all the best in the future.

We are pleased to announce that Claire McDonagh and Courtney Ellison will be joining the South Alive family when Cress leaves. 

Claire is an admin  whizz and is full of enthusiasm for her role of Administration & Financial Support Manager.  Claire will start in the office on June 10th and will also manage volunteers and Pod bookings. 

Courtney has extensive experience working with communities and with local government and will join South Alive as the Community Operations and Development Manager also starting on June 10th.  Courtney will be responsible for our major projects and strategy. 

We were fortunate to have a large number of applications to choose from and are thrilled that Claire and Courtney have agreed to join our family.  Please make them feel welcome when you see them in the office from the 10th of June.

The annual South Alive Quiz Night is back at the Newfield Tavern, 7pm on June 13th!

$20 for a team of 4 - just register on the night.  Raffles $2 or three for $5.

Your support of the quiz night allows us to continue to work on projects our community identify as important to them.  Come early and grab some dinner or a drink - the tables fill up fast!
South Alive hosts various social groups in The Pod.  If you're looking to meet new people or try something new, you're very welcome at any of the below:
  • Seniors Friendship Group - every Tuesday 2pm - 4pm
  • Embroidery & Hand sewing group - every other Tuesday 10am - noon
  • Rag rug/Knitting group - every Thursday 10am - noon
  • Mindful morning meditation - first Monday of every month 10am - 11.30am
  • Crop Swap - first Sunday of every month - 3pm - 4pm
  • Youth gaming - once a month (check website for monthly dates)
  • Book Club - once a month (check website for monthly dates)
If you have an idea for something you would like to see happening in your community, pop into the office for a chat.  We'd love to hear from you!  We're here from 10am - 2pm weekdays.
Our wonderful Beautification volunteer team are having a working bee in the South Alive Community Gardens on Saturday June 8th from 11am - all are welcome!
 
If you have soot from coal ranges and/or egg shells, the team would love to take these off your hands - they're great for stopping pests eating our veggie plants.  Please drop to the office or leave in the composting area of the gardens. 

The team are also keen for any doantions of hand tools - trowels, hand forks or secateurs .All donations gratefully received.
Following the successful Youth Art exhibition organised by Miranda from the Southern DHB, the South Alive Arts volunteer group is proud to host the second art exhibition in The Pod, The "Creative Space Art" Exhibition in The Pod from June 26th.  This is art from a group of budding artists, supported by Ian Wildey and Caley Hall. 

The art is displayed throughout The Pod for 2 weeks from the 26th June.

Janine is hosting the first Book Club on June 19th at 6pm in The Pod.  This month's theme is an author you haven't read before.  Just bring yourself, your book and a gold coin donation.  All welcome!
